The Freefly LR1 Laser Range Finder Upgrade is a user-installable distance sensor module that adds real-time ground distance measurement to the LR1 payload on the Freefly Astro. The integrated Lightware SF20/C sensor delivers a live distance readout directly in AMC and embeds the distance value at the moment of each photo capture into the image metadata — giving operators a continuous situational awareness feed during flight and a documented distance record inside every image file.
For mapping, survey, and inspection programs that require ground distance data alongside high-resolution imagery, this upgrade delivers both without adding a separate sensor system or post-processing dependency.
At 45g installed, the module adds negligible weight to the LR1 payload. It mounts with 4 screws into the LR1 expansion port and ships with all necessary hardware including a sensor module counterweight for balanced installation. The LR1 payload must be installed on the Astro prior to adding this upgrade, and an additional app is required on the Astro to enable distance sensor functionality. Programs running both the Laser Range Finder Upgrade and the Thermal Upgrade simultaneously will require a different counterweight than the one included in this kit.
